Woman Scammed Out of $1,700 in Craigslist Rental Ad

A Maryland woman reported that she was scammed out of $1,700 by a woman who promised to rent out a house to her in Dumfries. 

The 35-year-old woman reported on July 1 at 1:37 p.m. that she had responded to an ad on Craigslist for a room. She told police that she met with a young woman who called herself "Ashley" and represented herself as the daughter of the owner. The victim gave the woman $1,700 as a security deposit and first month's rent. 

The suspect failed to return for a meeting the next day. She is described as a black female, about 5 feet tall, weighing around 125 pounds. No further description was available.
