
It took six overtime periods, but the Woodbridge Vikings (6-4 overall, 5-1 division) pulled off a victory against the Gar-Field Indians (6-4 overall, 4-2 division) on Friday, November 5th. What started as a low-scoring defensive game eventually turned into a classic 37-34 victory for the Vikings. Â
By the end of the third quarter, Woodbridge led Garfield 7-3. Â It was during the fourth quarter and six overtime periods when both teams battled like two prizefighters giving it everything they had. Â
When Viking's Kicker Sam Brew nailed a 25-yard field goal at the end of regulation, the game was tied at 10.  Sam Brew once again became the hero when he nailed a 27-yard field goal for Woodbridge.  To conclude the game, Gar-Field's running back Shakeem Copeland was stopped by the Vikings' defense on the last play of the game.  Copland had the most rushing touchdowns (10 before the game) for a Gar-Field running back since 2007. After the epic game, Woodbridge heads into the playoffs feeling confident. Â This is the team's first win over a team with a winning record. Â Although the Vikings started 0-3, they have finished the season strong and could be dangerous in the playoffs. Â Gar-Field has lost its last two games and execute if they want to advance into the playoffs. Â
The Vikings will head to Franklin County to play in the Virginia AAA Northwest region playoff game and the Indians will head to Battlefield.
