As Benjamin Franklin left the Constitutional Convention in 1787, he was reportedly asked what kind of government the founders would propose. He replied, “A republic, if you can keep it.” What a remarkable gift the framers left us in the Constitution.
A program of thanksgiving for the Constitution of the United States will be presented at 10:30 AM, Saturday, September 21, 2019 at Mt. Hebron Cemetery. The Chapel is located immediately to your left as you enter the cemetery under the “Arch.” Essential aspects of our Constitution and the importance of civic education, civil discourse and mutual respect in maintaining a healthy republic will be discussed. This will be an exciting, “living history” event!

Forty American Revolution War veterans buried in Mt. Hebron Cemetery will be honored for their sacrifice in securing our Independence and Freedom. A Nation governed by a Constitution is what they fought and died to establish.
Numbers of scholars will speak on the Constriction and Bill of Rights. Revolutionary War Soldiers and re-enactors will bring the audience back in history using dynamic storytelling elements. Liberty Man, a popular “old soldier” will meet children and adults who attend. Liberty Man portrays his Great X4 Grandfather Abel Johnston who fought the British alongside General Daniel Morgan. Many other descendants of soldiers, who fought in the Revolution, will be present.
Master of Ceremonies Alan Morrison, a well-liked pastor in the Shenandoah Valley, will share master of ceremonies duties with General George Washington, who has come to honor his old soldiers buried at the Winchester Cemetery.
Hundreds of Soldiers, Marines and Sailors who fought in all our wars for our Constitution are buried at Mt. Hebron. This is your opportunity to honor those who fought and died for our Freedoms with your presence.
