Christmas 2019: What's Open, What's Closed In Leesburg

LEESBURG, VA — Christmas Day falls on a Wednesday, meaning local government and other services will take a break mid week. It's a given that many services are closed on Christmas Day, but others will be closed Christmas Eve and surrounding days as well.
We've rounded up the closings and schedule changes to know around Leesburg. Schools are closed for an extended winter break, while other services will run on half-day schedules on Christmas Eve.
Leesburg Town Government Offices: All city offices and facilities will be closed half a day on Tuesday, Dec. 24 and all day on Wednesday, Dec. 25 and Thursday, Dec. 26.

State courts: Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court are closed Dec. 24-26.
Loudoun County Public Schools: Students are on winter break Dec. 23-Jan 3. All offices are closed.

Leesburg Police Department: Administrative offices will be closed half a day on Dec. 24 and all day on Wednesday, Dec. 25 and Thursday, Dec. 26. Leeesburg police officers and dispatchers will be on duty 24/7 on these days. The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office's administrative offices will be closed Dec. 24 and Dec. 25. Its deputies and telecommunications staff will be on duty 24/7 on these days. The Loudoun Detention Center's visiting hours and instructions are listed on its website.
Parking: From Nov. 27 until 8 a.m. on Jan. 2, 2020, parking will be free in the Town Hall Parking Garage, at the Church Street parking lot, and at all on-street meters.
Post Offices: Closed Dec. 25. No mail will be delivered.
Loudoun County Transit: No service Dec. 24-25.
Loudoun County Public Library: All library branches will be closed Dec. 24-25.
Trash & Recycling: No collection on Dec. 25. All collections will be shifted by one day.
Movie Theaters: Most area movie theaters will be open Christmas Day. We would encourage calling your theater of choice to confirm hours.
Grocery Stores: Area grocery stores hours are as follows:
- Safeway, 437 S King St.: 6 a.m.-8 p.m. on Christmas Eve and 7 a.m.-11 p.m. on Christmas Day.
- Food Lion. 720 S King St. : 7 a.m.-11 p.m. on Chrismas Eve and closed on Christmas Day.
- Giant, 61 Catoctin Cir NE: 6 a.m.-7 p.m. on Christmas Eve and 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on Christmas Day.
- Harris Teeter, 19350 Winmeade Dr.: All stores will close at 7 p.m. Dec. 24 and will reopen at 8 a.m. on Dec. 26.
- Wegmans, 101 Crosstrail Boulevard Southeast: 6 a.m.-6 p.m. on Christmas Eve. Closed on Christmas Day.
