Construction Begins On Final Segment Of Riverside Parkway Project
The Riverside Parkway Project, together with the Battlefield Parkway Interchange project, should allow Route 7 to operate more as a freeway.

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — Loudoun County officials held a ceremonial groundbreaking Thursday on the final segment of the Riverside Parkway Project, a planned four-lane, divided road segment extending Riverside Parkway from Silvery Blue Terrace to Loudoun County Parkway at George Washington Boulevard. Construction of this segment of the Riverside Parkway project, east of Leesburg, is expected to be completed by fall 2021. The total cost of the project currently stands at $23.34 million, Loudoun County said in a Dec. 12 news release.
Members of the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors were on hand for the groundbreaking of this final segment. The project also calls for the removal of Lexington Drive on both sides of Route 7, a new Loudoun Water main and the replacement of the existing temporary traffic signal at Loudoun County Parkway and George Washington Boulevard with a permanent signal.
Completion of Riverside Parkway Project, in conjunction with the planned Battlefield Parkway Interchange project, is designed to improve traffic flow and allow Route 7 to operate as a freeway west of Countryside Boulevard in Loudoun County. According to the county, the project also will improve connectivity among the Lexington 7, Potomac Farms, River Crest and University Center communities.

The county's subcontractor for the Riverside Parkway construction project, Francis O. Day Co. Inc., has completed the removal of the traffic signal at the intersection of Lexington Drive and Route 7. The installation of inlaid pavement markers on Route 7 will take place at a future date, which should not affect drivers on the highway, the county said.
