Dates for Upcoming Loudoun County Household Hazardous Waste Collections
Safely dispose of everything from light bulbs to batteries, pesticides, paint and more.

Time for a little spring cleaning?
If you're trying to declutter before warm-weather fun begins this year, here are some upcoming dates when Loudoun County families can safely dispose of household hazardous waste materials (HHW).
The first HHW collection event of the year will be held next Saturday, March 19 at the Leesburg Park and Ride, located at 19730 Sycolin Road.

All HHW events are held on Saturdays, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

March 19, Leesburg Park & Ride, 19730 Sycolin Road, Leesburg
April 23, Harmony Park & Ride, 39464 East Colonial Highway, Hamilton
May 21, Ashburn North Park & Ride, 45151 Russell Branch Parkway, Ashburn
June 25, Freedom High School, 25450 Riding Center Drive, South Riding
According to the county, residents are welcome to bring HHW from their homes to these events.
Typical allowed HHW includes:
- fluorescent light bulbs,
- dry-cell batteries (alkaline, Ni-Cad, Lithium, rechargeable, etc),
- oil-based paint/stain/varnish and paint thinner,
- mineral spirits,
- metal polish,
- rust remover,
- wood strippers and preservatives,
- furniture polish,
- waxes, sealants and solvents,
- bleach,
- pesticides, insecticides and herbicides,
- fertilizer,
- pool chemicals,
- muriatic acid,
- ammonia,
- mercury thermometers and thermostats,
- gasoline and gas-oil mixes,
- expired fuel,
- auto cleaners and flushes,
- brake and transmission fluid, and windshield washer fluid,
- fire extinguishers,
- moth balls,
- pet care products, and
- photo chemicals.
Participants must have proof of Loudoun County residency such as a vehicle decal or applicable town sticker.
Motor oil, antifreeze, automobile batteries, lead-acid batteries, and propane tanks will not be accepted at HHW collection events. These materials are accepted at the Loudoun County Solid Waste Management Facility, 21101 Evergreen Mills Road in Leesburg. Visit www.loudoun.gov/landfill for more information.
Ammunition, explosives, fireworks, and gun powder will not be accepted at the HHW collection events. For information about disposal of those items, contact the Loudoun County Fire Marshal’s Office at 703-737-8600.
Electronics will not be accepted at the HHW collection events. Information on how to properly dispose of unwanted electronics is online at www.loudoun.gov/electronics.
Medical waste and medications are not accepted at the HHW collection events. Call 703-771-5500 for disposal information.
Latex or water-based paint that has been thickened by adding paint hardener or clumping kitty litter may be disposed of in your regular trash. Check first with your trash hauler, community association office, or Town office to ensure paint disposal is allowed with curbside trash collection.
Liquid latex paint may be disposed of for a fee Monday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Loudoun County Solid Waste Management Facility at 21101 Evergreen Mills Road in Leesburg.
Businesses and organizations in Loudoun that generate small amounts of hazardous waste are encouraged to visit www.loudoun.gov/bhwp or call 703-771-5500 for information about the county’s Business Hazardous Waste Collection Program.
