
Donald Whitelegg Devine of Leesburg VA, 84, died October 1, 2014
He is survived by his five children, Anne Camille Devine, Donald W. Devine Jr. (Nancy) and Walter Starr Ripley Devine, all of Loudoun County, Oliver Patrick Droit Devine of Washington, D.C. and Mary Devine Whitehorne (Les) of Virginia Beach, VA as well as eight grandchildren and four step-grandchildren.
Born March 16, 1930 in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, he was preceded in death by his parents Anne Whitelegg and Maj. Gen. John Matthew Devine as well as his siblings, John Austin Devine, Ruth Devine Finlay and Dorothy Devine Wurster.
He graduated from Yale University in 1952, served as an Army lieutenant in the Korean War until 1954 and graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1958, where he was editor of the Law Review.
In 1954 on a blind date arranged by his father he met the love of his life, Patricia Ann Ripley. They were married 50 years. She died in 2006.
In his 58 years in Leesburg Don was president of the Rotary Club, co-founder of the Loudoun Association for Retarded Citizens and was the County’s Commonwealth’s Attorney from 1971 until 1979, when he became a federal judge in Washington, D.C. He was a lifelong member of Saint John’s Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus there.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, October 9, 2014, at Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Circle, SE, Leesburg, VA. Those who wish to gather with the family are welcome from 12:00 to 1:00 pm on Friday, October 10, 2014 at the funeral home.
A funeral mass will begin at 1:30 PM on Friday at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, 55 Oak Crest Manor in Leesburg.
Burial will follow in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Leesburg, with a reception after at Glenfiddich House, 205 N. King St., in Leesburg.
