Former Redskins Player and Mayor Kick-Off Season of Giving

The Loudoun County Salvation Army has 16 donation locations throughout the county

On Nov. 13, The Loudoun County Salvation Army hosted the Red Kettle Program Kick-Off at the Giant on Catoctin Circle in Leesburg. The keynote speaker was former Washington Redskins Player Santana Moss. Leesburg Mayor Kelly Burk was also a special guest who took part in the ribbon cutting alongside Moss. The event was concluded with a performance by the Rock Ridge High School Choir.

From Nov. 8 until Dec. 24, county residents can volunteer to help with the Kettle Program. Girl Scout troops, families, clubs, school organizations and anyone interested in helping are invited to join.The Salvation Army relies heavily on volunteers and considers them the most valuable assets in their efforts to meet the community’s needs.

The Loudoun County Salvation Army serves all Loudoun County residents in need 365 days a year, sharing in the mission of Christ and providing an array of services to help families. They work to prevent hunger, support senior citizens with medications and provide temporary assistance in paying utilities and rent for those in danger of homelessness. Eighty three cents for every dollar donated to the Kettle Program goes directly to providing these services.

Each year, The Salvation Army also assists the community through the Angel Tree Program. Donors provide assistance to children across Loudoun County by providing new clothing and toys, so every child can experience Christmas morning. Thousands of local children are impacted by this initiative each year. Once a child has been registered as an “Angel,” The Salvation Army makes a commitment to provide them with Christmas gifts.

The Salvation Army annually helps more than 23 million Americans overcome poverty, addiction, and economic hardships through a range of social services. By providing food for the hungry, emergency relief for disaster survivors, rehabilitation for those suffering from drug and alcohol abuse, and clothing and shelter for people in need, The Salvation Army operates 7,600 centers around the country. In the first-ever listing of “America’s Favorite Charities” by The Chronicle of Philanthropy, The Salvation Army ranked as the country’s largest privately funded, direct-service nonprofit.
