FRIGID FORECAST: Winter Storm Warning, Wind Chill Advisory

A Winter Storm Warning for the region remains in effect through 11 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, and chilly winds could put the area in a deep freeze, according to the National Weather Service.

Snow began to fall about mid-morning and accumulations of 6-10 inches are anticipated throughout the day. The light snow now falling is expected to pick up in the afternoon.

As the snow begins to taper off in the evening, a wind chill advisory will go into effect. Winds of 15 mph to 25 mph are expected, with gusts of up to 40 mph. Temperatures could dip to near zero, with the wind making it feel 5 degrees to 15 degrees below zero. The wind chill advisory remains in effect until noon Wednesday.

Anyone heading outside should wear not only a coat, but also a hat a gloves.

The weather will cover roads with slippery precipitation and impact visibility. Traveling will be hazardous, throughout the day, with afternoon driving and the evening commute expected to the worst.

If you must travel, take a blanket, an extra flashlight, food and water.
