Glass Recycling Program Expands To New Sites In Loudoun County

Loudoun County has expanded its glass recycling program to include three new drop-off sites across the county.

LEESBURG, VA — The glass recycling program in Loudoun County has expanded to three new sites, according to a press release from the county. Purple glass recycling bins are now available in Arcolo, Middleburg, and Philomont.

The county has now launched six drop-off centers since starting their pilot glass recycling program in July 2020. The three new sites join three initial locations in Leesburg, Hamilton, and Sterling. Residents can now visit any of the following locations to recycle their glass jars and bottles.

  • Arcola Recycling Center, 24244 Stone Springs Boulevard, Arcola
  • Central Western Loudoun Recycling Center, 38159 Colonial Highway, Hamilton
  • Landfill Recycling Center, 21101 Evergreen Mills Road, Leesburg
  • Mickie Gordon Park Recycling Center, 23229 Carters Farm Lane, Middleburg
  • Philomont Recycling Center, 36560 Jeb Stuart Road, Philomont
  • Sterling Park Recycling Center, 400 W Laurel Avenue, Sterling

At each of the drop-off sites, visitors can dispose of their glass in large, clearly-marked purple bins. The county does ask that residents follow a few guidelines when disposing of materials in the bins.

The drop-off sites only accept jars and bottles that have already been emptied and rinsed out. The county also requested that residents remove any lids or caps and deposit the glass loosely in the containers, not in any bags.

Loudoun County's pilot glass recycling program was established to increase recycling opportunities for glass, according to the county. Glass that is mixed in with other recycled materials is harder to separate and limits any attempts to recycle the material.

Glass that is disposed of at Loudoun County's drop off centers will be transported to Fairfax , where they will be used in construction projects or sent to other facilities to be recycled into glass bottles.
