Globe Sculpture Relocated from Lansdowne to Downtown Leesburg

The globe sculpture that marked the entrance to 'Lansdowne Woods,' formerly called 'Leisure World,' was moved to Downtown Leesburg.

LEESBURG, VA – The iconic globe sculpture that for more than two decades marked the entrance to Lansdowne Woods of Virginia, formerly called "Leisure World," has been moved to the heart of downtown Leesburg.

The distinctive steel and fiberglass sculpture, which stood more than 15’ high on the corner of Woodridge Parkway and Slatestone Court, has been donated by 1500+ residents of Lansdowne Woods of Virginia to the developers of Crescent Place, located adjacent to the W&OD trail and Harrison Street, in Leesburg, according to a Lansdowne Woods announcement.

“The globe is a wonderful piece of art in a beautiful setting, and it has been an appropriate representation of the Leisure World name,” said Bert Schlabach, president of the Lansdowne Woods board of directors. “But we are now Lansdowne Woods, and while we are still building on that wonderful active adult concept, we are also making sure our current offerings and our ambience are appropriate for people buying homes here today,” he explained. “We’re very excited about the stunning new stone entry feature that will bear our Lansdowne Woods name, and we are glad we can still visit the globe in nearby Leesburg.”
