Gregory Brown Sworn In as New Leesburg Chief of Police

LEESBURG, VA – Gregory Brown became the Town of Leesburg’s fifth Chief of Police at a swearing in ceremony on Thursday, Sept. 29. Browne replaces Joseph Price, who retired in March after serving as Chief of Police for sixteen years.

According to a Leesburg Police Department announcement, during his remarks at the swearing-in ceremony Mayor David Butler said that he believes the hiring of a police chief is the most important decision community leaders make. He noted that Chief Brown quickly rose to the top during the search, competing with 88 other candidates from across the nation. Mayor Butler concluded by welcoming Chief Brown to Leesburg, adding that the entire council is looking forward to working with him.

Formerly a captain with the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, Brown was most recently commander of the Eastern Loudoun Station. He previously supervised patrol operations, criminal investigations and undercover operations in vice, narcotic and gangs with the Sheriff’s Office. In addition, he has served as the Deputy Director overseeing all Basic Law Enforcement Training at the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Academy. Prior to joining the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, Mr. Brown was an officer with the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police Department.

Mr. Brown holds a Master’s Degree in Justice Administration from the University of Louisville and a Bachelor’s Degree from Ramapo College of New Jersey. He is a graduate of University of Louisville’s Southern Police Institute’s Administrative Officers Course where he obtained a Graduate Certificate in Police Executive Leadership. Additionally, Greg recently completed the Mentoring Potential Chief Executive Officers Program which is a comprehensive two-year program co-sponsored by Cedarville University and the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives. He is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE), and Alpha Phi Alpha, Fraternity Inc.

Chief Brown will assume his duties on Monday, October 3, 2016, according to the Leesburg Police Department.
