Leesburg, VA (June 11, 2021) – The Town of Leesburg has received $2M in grant funding from the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority (NVTA) to begin the first step in studying and developing alternatives for the signalized intersection between Route 15 Leesburg Bypass and Battlefield Parkway.

The intersection is one of the most congested intersections in the Town of Leesburg. This project would help to reduce congestion and vehicle delays by replacing the current at-grade intersection with an interchange.
This improvement would also provide safe access across the Route 15 Bypass for pedestrians and bicyclists. Surveying is expected to begin this month in order to collect information about the existing conditions.

The initial step in developing an interchange is to prepare an Interchange Access Report (IAR) to evaluate the need for the interchange, analyze environmental impacts, develop and compare alternative interchange designs, recommend an alternative, and establish a project budget.
The IAR for the Battlefield Parkway and Route 15 Bypass is expected to be completed by the summer of 2023. Public input meetings are planned with the first one expected to take place in the winter/spring of 2022 once alternatives have been identified and evaluated.
