John Edward Davis III, 70

John Edward Davis III, 70, of Leesburg, VA, passed away on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 after a short illness.

Born on May 31, 1944 in Oakland, California he was the son of the late Rev. John Edward Davis Jr and the late Margaret Russell Davis. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter, Laura Davis Doudera and brother, Stephen Davis.

John was a proud graduate of Virginia Tech, where he graduated with a degree in civil engineering in 1966. After graduation, he worked for Tidewater Construction in Norfolk, Virginia for 30 years before retiring in 2007 from Parsons Brinkerhoff in Herndon. He was a faithful and loyal member of Thalia United Methodist Church, Virginia Beach, for 25 years. Most recently he was a member of Leesburg United Methodist Church for the past 16 years where he frequently participated in the worship service and enjoyed being the reader at bible school. John served his country in the Army during the Vietnam War. John loved and served the Lord through his volunteer work for the Gideon’s and volunteering at Loudoun Care Givers.

He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Sharon Hulvey Davis; daughter, Margaret Lynne Davis of Leesburg; grandson, Lucas John Doudera; son-in-law, Scott Doudera (Whitney) of Virginia Beach; brothers, Mark Davis (Gina) of Richmond and James Davis (Millie) of Mt. Pisgah; sisters, Debbie Rogers (Bob) of Woodstock, VA and Gayle Urquhart of Franklin; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 26, 2014 at Leesburg United Methodist Church with Pastor Jim Wishmyer officiating. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 29, 2014 at New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery.
