Joshua’s Hands Valiant Warrior Quilting Event - Location Update

Quilting Location is 38997 E. Colonial Highway, Old BB&T Bank Building, Hamilton, VA

"The Lord is with you, O Valiant Warrior” - Judges 6:12.

In January 2011, Joshua’s Hands gathered volunteers from around Loudoun County to work on quilts for Valiant Warriors. In a ten-day session, volunteers made twenty-nine quilts and realized that this would not be a one-time effort. People loved the opportunity to gather in support of our troops and to “do something” with tangible results to help. What they also appreciated was the opportunity to work with other volunteers of all ages and abilities in a mentoring environment. When the session was completed, everyone learned something from the effort. All involved felt deep satisfaction with the final product.

Since 2011, Joshua’s Hands has created and shipped more than 1,900 quilts to field hospitals in support of our military. The community event has people of all ages laughing, stitching and learning from each other. This is a great service project for groups or teens needing service hours. The outpouring of love and support is indicative of the hearts of quilters. “They are such a giving group,” said Joyce Guthrie, president and CEO of Joshua’s Hands. “The volunteers give of their time and talents both to make quilts and to mentor quilting. It is a privilege to know people with such helping hands and servant hearts,” Guthrie said.

Joshua's Hands is a non-profit in Loudoun County that hosts FREE quilting events to support wounded military service men and women. One of the great things about our event is that no sewing experience is required and it is free to all who care to participate. We have many parents/grandparents and group leaders that bring their middle age children and high school age students and they get an introduction to the fun of quilting - inspiring the next generation of quilters!

Joshua's Hands Valiant Warrior Quilting Event (January 17 through 26, 2020) will host 10 days of quilting fun to make handmade quilts for service men and women wounded while serving our nation. The organization sends these quilts to Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Qatar and the military hospitals at Ramstein and Landstuhl (Germany). During this session, they will likely create their 2,000th quilt!

Note: Many people have inquired about the specifics for making quilts. We have been asked to make them long and narrow for stretchers/hospital beds. We have also been asked to make them red/white/blue (cotton fabrics) without cartoon prints.

If you would like to make a top and send it to us, we will get it quilted. We also accept finished quilts. Please be sure to use natural fiber batting. We also welcome quilts/tops made at home – see our website for specific requirements. This opportunity is offered each January and July/August.

Quilts can be shipped to:
