Leesburg 4th of July Parade: Sjurseth Float Wins Best In Show
Ted and Lisa Sjurseth credit their grandchildren as the inspiration for their winning float in Leesburg's Independence Day parade.

LEESBURG, VA — Longtime Leesburg residents Ted and Lisa Sjurseth credit their grandchildren as the inspiration for their float in the town's 29th annual Independence Day parade, and the float — "Happy Birthday America" — would up being named "Best in Show" by the Leesburg Daybreak Rotary Club.
"We are typically on a different float but the grandkids wanted to do one of their own," Lisa Sjurseth said in a release about the float, which took about three hours to create. "The kids were surprised and very happy to win."
Following the parade, Leesburg Mayor Kelly Burk presented the 12th annual Patriot Cup to the family. It'll be engraved with their names and displayed at Town Hall. The family also will be presented with a certificate of recognition during the July 23 Town Council meeting.
