Leesburg Restaurant Inspections: 11 Violations At 3 Locations

The Loudoun County Health Department found violations at 5 locations in Leesburg and Middleburg during routine restaurant inspections.

LEESBURG, VA — Officials from the Loudoun County Health Department inspected multiple restaurants across the Leesburg area from June 17 to June 22, including three restaurants that amassed a total of 11 violations.

As coronavirus restrictions continue to loosen around the state, health inspectors are returning to conduct restaurant inspections in person. However, some visits, such as those for training purposes, can be conducted virtually.

Violations at restaurants typically focus on factors that can contribute to food contamination. The local health department also performs a re-inspection to ensure that possible violations have been corrected.

For every observed violation, the inspector provides a specific corrective action that can be completed to rectify the violation. Sometimes these are simple, and violations can be corrected during the course of the inspection.

  • Chrysalis Vineyards at the Ag District, 39025 John Mosby Hwy Middleburg, VA 20117
    • Date inspected: June 17
    • Total violations and corrective actions: 2
    • Violations:
      • Hand washing station in pizza kitchen lacks hand wash signage.
      • The dish machine was not sanitizing food utensils. When tested, the chlorine sanitizer test strips showed 0 ppm chlorine.
  • Cold Stone Creamery, 1013 Edwards Ferry Rd Leesburg, VA 20176
    • Date inspected: June 21
    • Total violations and corrective actions: 6
    • Violations:
      • EHS observed walk-in cooler shelving is not clean with food debris on wire shelf bars.
      • EHS observed walk-in cooler air temperature device to not be in working order. Air temperature on device read at below zero degrees.
      • The ice machine was observed to have multiple black and red spots on the inside surface of the machine where ice is stored.
      • Observed an employee rinsing a wet cleaning rag in the front hand sink while water was running from faucet of hand sink.
      • Observed an employee who failed to wash their hands prior to putting on gloves after their left hand wiped their fore head.
      • EHS was not able to review food employees and conditional employees reporting health agreement forms.
  • Blue Ridge Grill, 955 Edwards Ferry Rd Leesburg, VA 20175
    • Date inspected: June 22
    • Total violations and corrective actions: 3
    • Violations:
      • EHS observed an employee's left bare hand rake through a plastic bin that was filled with freshly washed & cut cucumbers @ the 3 basin sink. Cut cucumbers that were observed touched by the employee's bare hand were raked into a secondary food container. The employee's job duty during this time period was to transfer washed & cut cucumbers from the plastic bin to another food container, which will then be used on the cook line.
      • EHS observed inside the ice machine, that the internal walls, ceiling, and tubing of the storage bin for ice has black spots.
      • EHS observed 2 white cutting boards that are greatly scratched and discolored from use over time.
