KKK Condemned By Leesburg Town Council For Fliers
Leesburg leaders promise legal action against the KKK and other hate groups that violate the law.

LEESBURG, VA — The recent appearance of Ku Klux Klan recruitment fliers around Leesburg prompted the Town Council on Tuesday to condemn the white supremacist group and promise legal action against any hate group if it violates the law. The council passed a resolution after KKK fliers were found in several driveways last weekend, as well as in other parts of Loudoun County.
Other KKK fliers showed up last month in Leesburg and Round Hill on the weekend before the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the civil rights leader. The Leesburg police and the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office are investigating the incidents.
The LCSO said that no individuals have been targeted by the fliers. But members of Leesburg's African American community expressed anger and called on the Town Council on Tuesday to take action, radio station WTOP reported.

In the resolution, the council said that Leesburg is an inclusive community that "denounces and rejects all ideologies based on hatred and intolerance," and groups that promote those ideas. The resolution also says that town leaders will encourage local, state and federal authrities to seek charges against any hate group "to the extent that their activities within the Town of Leesburg, Loudoun County and the State of Virginia violate local, state, or federal law."
Police say the KKK fliers are not illegal, but a local African American businessman told WTOP that the Klan is "my ISIS."
