LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — Loudoun County Animal Services received a call about a stray dog. Officer Taylor responded to the call and spotted Troopster laying outside.

Malnourished, with aching joints, painful, raw skin and eyes so infected he could hardly see, Troopster wagged his tail in Taylor's direction and happily accepted treats. With some gentle coaxing and assistance, he slowly got up and followed her to her truck for transport to the shelter near Waterford.

When Troopster, who is 11-years-old, arrived at the shelter, staffers were amazed by his spirit, given his condition. He is a trusting, happy dog. He wags his tail when he hears staff members coming, takes naps in LCAS offices and loves going on short walks to explore outside.

The LCAS medical team has been working hard to help him get comfortable. After only a week of treatment, his skin was healing, his aches were subsiding and his vision was returning.

However, in a heartbreaking turn, Troopster was diagnosed with lymphoma. LCAS had been hoping to see Troopster through a full recovery. But the shelter now knows a full recovery is not possible.

But Troopster isn't ready to lay his head down yet. He loves car rides, and he loves people. LCAS knows that his time here is not likely long, but after what he has been through, Troopster deserves to live his final days full of love, snuggles and trips to the drive-thru.
