Loudoun's Seasonal Beers Put Customers In The Holiday Spirit

Breweries in Loudoun County are offering a wide selection of holiday beers. Give them a taste before supplies run out.

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — Loudoun County's thriving craft beer scene, with the highest concentration of craft breweries in Virginia, is busy year-round, but December seems especially packed with winter seasonal beers that brewers promise will put their guests in the holiday spirit.

On the LoCo Virginia Ale Trail in Loudoun County, here are seven beers you can taste this holiday season. But don't wait, as supplies of many of these special Loudoun brews will be limited.

Along with releasing a few stouts over the holidays, Beer Chase Brewing has its Frost Delay, a malty lager that goes down smooth. It's the second time Beer Chase has brewed the beer. The maltiness will keep you nice and warm on a cold winter day. Frost Delay should be available for guests through the rest of this year.

reThink Hillsboro from Hillsborough Winery, Brewery and Vineyard

Apart from its Oktoberfest Bier, a Marzen lager that is still available, Hillsborough Winery will be releasing a Russian imperial stout aged in bourbon barrels. This beer should be coming out soon and will last through the winter months. It's a 9.3-percent stout bursting with chocolate and coffee notes with a smooth vanilla and silky oatmeal finish. It's unique for Hillsborough because it’s the brewery’s first barrel-aged beer to be released.

The second year Dynasty has brewed this sweet pastry-style stout, Holliday Farm has many holiday traditions, one that includes caramel corn. The stout incorporates caramel corn in its recipe making it a sweet, nutty, full bodied brew. Dynasty recently announced it will be conducting "tap takeovers" at Bike TrAle Brewing starting Dec. 13, so be on the lookout for Holiday Farm in Leesburg later this year.

Adroit Theory Brewing is releasing several beers in December. The holiday edition of Dia De Los Muertos, a dark Jamaican rum barrel-aged Russian imperial stout, is perhaps the one that's the best fit for the holidays. This edition is what Adroit Theory describes as an outrageously creamy drink that most people will have difficulty knowing it is a beer because it drinks like a Starbucks dessert coffee.

Jolly is an imperial stout aged in bourbon and brandy barrels, with cinnamon and vanilla. It will be available until it sells out, which could be soon because the stout is a great way to get in the holiday spirit. Cuvee is a sour red ale, spontaneously fermented. Last released in 2017, Crooked Run is using traditional methods to recreate Cuvee, one of its favorites. The beer is expected to be available for a few weeks. Crooked Run was the first brewery in Loudoun County to release spontaneous fermented beer.

Ol' Man Winter Ale from Old 690 Brewing Co.

Ol' Man Winter Ale is an amber ale made with large of amounts of local honey with the addition of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and orange. A perfect for the holiday season, Ol' Man Winter Ale should be on tap at Old 690 Brewing throughout the winter months.

Beltway Brewing's Black Snake (Beltway Brewing Co.)

Released just over a week ago, Beltway Brewing’s winter seasonal beer, Black Snake, is a bourbon-aged imperial stout with vanilla, clocking in at an aggressive 10.5-percent alcohol by volume. Beltway Brewing named this holiday beer in honor of a snake that scared the living daylights out of its owner. Black Snake should be available through the winter on draft and in cans.
