Massive Planting Project Set At JK Community Farm In Purcellville

PURCELLVILLE, VA—This latest effort by philanthropist Chuck Kuhn, CEO of JK Moving, involves a whole lot of dirt, a whole lot of seeds and a whole lot of elbow grease. We're talking about the JK Community Farm's initial "Plant-A-Thon," 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, May 18, at 35516 Paxon Road.
Organizers expect some 100 volunteers, including teams from JK Moving, Cao Relo, Pine Ridge Landscaping and Hinz Consulting, to converge on JK Community Farm and plant 9,000 seeds of various vegetable origins on seven acres. The aim, according to a release, is to "raise awareness about food insecurity in the region and help support the farm's expansion to serve the greater region."
Once the seeds become crops, the farm will donate the food to non-profit partners including Loudoun Hunger Relief, Fairfax-based Food for Others and the Arlington Food Assistance Center. Here's a brief rundown about the farm itself:

The JK Community Farm started in 2018 when JK Moving CEO Chuck Kuhn wanted to expand the breadth of his family and company’s philanthropic investments in a way that upheld the company values and had lasting impact. After purchasing 150 acres in Purcellville, Va. and putting it into conservation easement, four acres were initially used to grow more than 16 types of chemical free vegetables. In addition, the Kuhn family donated beef, pork, and venison. Volunteers help maintain the farm, which produced the equivalent of 25,000 meals for those facing food insecurity in Loudoun County last year.
