
In Memory of Mathias William Giordano June 14, 2001 – December 7, 2014
Mathias William Giordano, 13 of Leesburg, Virginia passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, December 7 after a 30-month heroic and inspiring battle against cancer. He passed at sunset, surrounded by love and holding the hands of his mom, dad and younger brother.
Mathias was born on June 14, 2001 in Fairfax, Virginia. He attended Simpson Middle School. He was passionate about all sports, especially soccer, and loved spending time with his friends and family. He was an avid fan of the New York Giants and L.A. Galaxy. He was a warm and friendly kid who went out of his way to make others feel valued and important. He was not selfish and believed in helping other kids with cancer. Mathias was loyal, strong, and his smile would light up the room.

Mathias leaves his loving family to cherish his memory including his parents, Chris and Roya Giordano and his brother, Troy Giordano; his maternal grandparents, M. Taghi Zokaie & Tayebeh Afshari of Copenhagen, Denmark; paternal grandparents, Stephen & Charlotte Giordano of Leesburg, VA; his aunts and uncles, Redondo Zokaie, Helle & Kenneth Poulsen, Tina Copeland, Joanna & Dave Beitzel, Steve and Nancy Giordano, and Chad Copeland. He will be missed by his nine cousins: Brianna Beitzel, Katlyn Copeland, Maelyn Beitzel, Logan Copeland, Jackson Giordano, Chloe Copeland, Lola Giordano, Natalie Poulsen, and Charlie Poulsen.
The family and Team Mathias will host a celebration in honor of Mathias’s life at 6pm on December 10 at 835 Lee Ave SW, Leesburg, VA 20175. The celebration is open to friends, family, Team Mathias supporters and the public. The family asks that you wear your Team Mathias gear or your favorite sports jersey.

The family will host a viewing on Thursday, December 11 at Colonial Funeral Home, 201 Edwards Ferry Road, NE, Leesburg, VA. Family is welcome at 4pm and the Team Mathias Community is welcome from 6pm-8pm.
Funeral Services will be held at 10am on Friday, December 12 at St. John the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 101 Oakcrest Manor Dr NE, Leesburg, VA. Interment will immediately follow and be held in Ebenezer Cemetery, 20421 Airmont Road, Bluemont, VA.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Team Mathias via teammathias.org. Roya, Chris and Troy Giordano will choose a charity on Mathias’ behalf.
