Motorcycle Accident Snarls Leesburg's Morning Commute

Ashburn man airlifted to local hospital after motorcycle crash early Thursday on Route 7, say Leesburg police.

LEESBURG, VA — An Ashburn man is being treated for serious injuries he suffered early Thursday in a motorcycle crash on Route 7. The accident led to a traffic jam for morning commuters, as the eastbound lanes of Route 7 at Battlefield Parkway were closed for about four hours, say Leesburg police.

Shortly after 2 a.m. Thursday, Leesburg police responded to the report of a motorcycle crash on Route 7 just east of Battlefield Parkway. Upon arrival, officers "found an unconscious man suffering from what appeared to be life-threatening injuries," the police said in a statement.

The 30-year-old man was airlifted to Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, and his injuries were non-life-threatening, the police said.

The police closed the eastbound lanes of Route 7 for several hours as crash investigators with the Leesburg police, the Virginia State Police and the Virginia Department of Transportation inspected the accident scene, according to radio station WTOP.
