New Art Exhibit Features Work By Goose Creek Ruggers

The public can view the artwork, in-person, through Aug. 31, 2021, and it's all happening in Leesburg.

Leesburg, VA (June 8, 2021) – The Leesburg Commission on Public Art (COPA) is pleased to announce a new art display of hooked rugs that is available for viewing at Leesburg Town Hall (25 West Market Street).

The display features hand-hooked rugs in many sizes, styles, and colors created by members of the Goose Creek Ruggers. Most of the pieces feature strips of wool hooked onto linen backings but several are punched wool yarn on linen.

The exhibit will run through August 31, 2021. The public is encouraged to stop by and see the art during normal business hours at Leesburg Town Hall. An opening reception will be held during Leesburg First Friday on July 2 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

The Goose Creek Ruggers are a chapter of the Association of Traditional Hooking Artists (www.atharugs.com). They will resume meeting at the Catoctin Presbyterian Church, in Waterford, VA, on the 2nd Saturday of every month, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on July 10. All are welcome but vaccinations and masks are currently required, per church policy.

The first floor lobby and hallway of the Leesburg Town Hall features rotating exhibits by Leesburg and Loudoun artists. Those interested in having their work considered for a future exhibit should contact Leah Kosin, staff liaison to the Commission on Public Art, at lkosin@leesburgva.gov.
