New Loudoun Animal Shelter Expected To Open In Early 2021

The LCAS project, which will include a new 21,450-square-foot facility in Leesburg, had been scheduled for completion by late summer.

LEESBURG, VA — Loudoun County has pushed back the opening of its new animal services facility to early 2021, the county said Monday. As recently as August, the county said the new 21,450-square-foot facility for Loudoun County Animal Services would be open by the end of this past summer.

Construction crews at the new Loudoun County Animal Services facility have completed the parking lot asphalt and the outdoor barn. The crews are currently finishing the remaining site work, including mechanical and plumbing, installing exterior fencing, and applying concrete polish flooring, the county said Monday.

The installation of architectural finishes at the new LCAS facility will be ongoing until the end of the project, currently "estimated for completion in winter 2021," the county said.

The expanded facility in Leesburg will serve as the primary location for LCAS, replacing the existing 15,000-square-foot facility in Waterford.

The new facility will provide many of the same services as the current animal shelter, including pet adoptions; animal welfare law enforcement; housing of stray, abandoned, or relinquished companion animals; dog license sales; volunteer opportunities; dispatch services; low-cost rabies vaccines, educational programs; and pet retention counseling.
