Nonprofit Hearts of Empowerment Addresses Food Insecurity And Education Continuity in Loudoun County, Using Funding From CARES Act

Leesburg, VA — Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the amount of people with food insecurity has risen drastically, both across the nation and in our own backyards. Additionally, safe public health measures have made education continuity more difficult in many cases. Nonprofit Hearts of Empowerment— an organization focused on sourcing funding and raising awareness for the campaigns of other nonprofits— has committed money awarded by Loudoun County’s allocation from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, to assist local organizations with stocking food items and providing school supplies to our local youth and families in need.

“Demand for emergency food services has drastically increased in Loudoun County since the middle of March. The number of families seeking our services has increased from around 250 a week to a peak of about 800 a week” — Jennifer Montgomery, Executive Director of Loudoun Hunger Relief. “Hearts of Empowerment’s efforts will assist in serving those in need in our community. It warms our hearts to see our community standing alongside and up for our families in need.”

Hearts of Empowerment has allocated its funding for grocery items and school supplies. These items have gone to 7 local entities: Echo Works, a northern Virginia-based nonprofit that ensures social and economic success in adults with disabilities; Loudoun Hunger Relief, a food pantry; Mobile Hope of Loudoun, an organization that works to give youth and young adults the resources they need to achieve self-sufficiency in society; the Loudoun County YMCA; The Tree of Life, a denominational organization that focuses on aiding local communities; the Loudoun County Juvenile Detention Center; and All Ages Read Together, a nonprofit dedicated to educating children in need with free preschool programs.
