LEESBURG, VA — Lane closures will occur in Leesburg along East Market Street (Route 7) between the Leesburg Bypass and River Creek Parkway through Thursday night, Dec. 12 and Sunday night, Dec. 15 through Thursday night, Dec. 19 for work related to the Battlefield Parkway interchange project, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).

From 10 p.m. each night to 5 a.m. the following morning through Dec. 12, lane closures will occur on eastbound and westbound Route 7 for temporary median widening work. On the nights of Dec. 15 and Dec. 16, there will be lane closures on westbound Route 7, then on the nights of Dec. 17 and Dec. 18, there will be lane closures on eastbound Route 7 to install temporary pavement markings. Once the markings are in place, all lanes in both directions will temporarily shift to the left.

State and local partners broke ground Oct. 15 on the new interchange, which is designed to increase capacity, improve safety and traffic flow, and provide new options for cyclists and pedestrians. The entire project is scheduled for completion in fall 2021.
