'Police Appreciation Day' in Leesburg Set for Oct. 20
The community is encouraged to wear blue and tie blue ribbons on trees and mailboxes on 'Police Appreciation Day' in Leesburg on Oct. 20.

LEESBURG, VA — The second annual "Police Appreciation Day" will be held in Leesburg on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2016, according to a Town of Leesburg announcement.
To mark the day, the Town of Leesburg will place blue ribbons on trees in front of Town facilities, at Town parks, and throughout the downtown. Residents, schools, and businesses are encouraged to show their support for the Leesburg Police by tying blue ribbons around trees in their yards, on their mailboxes, and their doors. The Town asks residents to wear blue on Thursday, Oct. 20, as an additional sign of support and appreciation.
Leesburg Police officers and department staff members will be treated to breakfast, lunch and dinner courtesy of the Leesburg Town Council and John Marshall Bank, the event sponsor, on Oct. 20. The meals will be served at the Leesburg Police Department headquarters during morning roll call, lunchtime, and evening roll call.

"Keeping our town safe is the most important function of the government,” said Leesburg Mayor David Butler. “I encourage everyone to show their support for our outstanding police department, not just on this day, but every day. I look forward to wearing blue on Oct. 20th.”
Members of the public can write notes of thanks and encouragement on the "Leesburg Police Appreciation Day" Facebook page at www.facebook.com/LeesburgPoliceAppreciationDay. The page will be active until Oct. 19, 2016. On Thursday, Oct. 20, the thank you notes posted will be displayed at the Police Department for all department staff to enjoy, according to the announcement.
