Slain High School Student's Family Seeks Funds To Cover Funeral

The family of a Winchester teenager killed in a shooting Friday night is holding a fundraising campaign to pay for his funeral expenses.

WINCHESTER, VA — The family of a Winchester teenager killed in a shooting Friday night is holding a fundraising campaign to pay for his funeral expenses.

Jaiden Myers, 18, died from gunshot wounds in a shooting that took place in an apartment building in the 2500 block of Wilson Boulevard in Winchester.

Police said the shooting suspect, Demetrius Dominque Brown, 18, of Fredericksburg, has been charged with murder in the case. The police have yet to find Brown.

Another victim, a juvenile male, was injured from a gunshot wound in the incident and is in serious condition at Winchester Medical Center, the Winchester Police Department said.

Myers was a senior at Handley High School, The Winchester Star reported Monday.

The Winchester Police Department is working with the Virginia State Police and Frederick County Sheriff’s Office on the case. Along with Fredericksburg and Winchester, Brown has ties to the Fairfax County and Washington, D.C. areas, the police said.

Jason Myers, who set up the GoFundMe campaign, said his nephew “was taken just a month after his 18th birthday. Jaiden was loved by many. Please help us give him the memorial he deserves.”
