Suspect Indicted for Crash that Killed Baby in Leesburg

A Leesburg man was indicted for the Aug. 31 crash in Lansdowne that killed a 5-month-old baby and seriously injured his mother.

LEESBURG, VA — John Miller IV, of Leesburg, was indicted today, Nov. 14, 2016, for the August 31, 2016 pedestrian fatality in Lansdowne, Va. which claimed five-month old Tristan Schulz’s life and seriously injured Mindy Schulz, his mother, according to an announcement by the Loudoun County Government.

The Grand Jury heard evidence from Deputy J. McClintic of the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) before returning true bills charging Miller with one count of involuntary manslaughter, one count of reckless driving, and one count of failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

Deputies say that on Aug. 31 at 8:30 a.m., Mindy Schulz was pushing Tristan in a stroller. The two were crossing Riverside Parkway from Coton Manor Drive towards Kipheart Drive. Preliminary investigation at that time by the LCSO indicated that Schulz was walking with the baby in a stroller in the marked crosswalk when they were struck by a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Miller.
