Suspect in New Year's Day Shooting in Custody: Leesburg Police

The suspect who shot a man at the Clarion Inn in Leesburg in the early morning hours on Jan. 1 has turned himself in to the police.

LEESBURG, VA — A Leesburg man, 23, turned himself in to the police for shooting a 33-year-old Springfield, Va. man on New Year's Day, according to a Leesburg Police Department announcement.

Police say that Justin Robin turned himself in to the Leesburg Police Department at about 10:00 p.m. on Sunday night, Jan. 1 and has been charged with Aggravated Malicious Wounding.

The shooting occurred on Jan. 1 at approximately 5:32 a.m., according to police. Officers responded to the Clarion Inn located at 1500 East Market Street for a report of an adult male with apparent gunshot wounds to the torso. Officers rendered aid and searched for the assailant with the assistance of Deputies from Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, Troopers from the Virginia State Police and the Helicopter Unit from Fairfax County Police Department.

The assailant had not been located initially. Detectives worked throughout the day Sunday following the initial call and positively identified the suspect. Robin is being held without bond at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.

The victim of the shooting is listed in stable condition and is recovering in an area hospital. The motive for the shooting is unknown at this time, however it does not appear to be gang related.

Detectives have determined it was an isolated event and there is no threat to the general public, according to the Leesburg Police Department.
