The Beach is Saved and You Can Pay Water Bills Online — But Are You Satisfied With Your Politicians?

Today in Leesburg, five things to know about politics and government in Leesburg and Loudoun.

We know, it's summer. And despite some nasty heat this week, you're probably spending more time outside than not. Which is why we've rounded up some useful news from Leesburg and Loudoun you might need this week:

1. Not so fast with that cardboard: Town of Leesburg officials said Monday the public-use recycling containers located in the parking lot of the Food Lion on South King Street will be removed. Fear not piles of plastic, though: public recycling containers still exist in the Wal-Mart parking lot on Edwards Ferry Road NE.(Town staff is researching alternate locations for a recycling center on the south side of Leesburg, officials said).

2. The Beach is Saved
: In case you missed it, the Beach' Is Back In Leesburg ... For Now. A 5-1-1 vote by the Leesburg Town Council amends the town's ordinance to allow alcoholic beverages in the outdoor space of MacDowell Brew Kitchen (MBK), adjacent to Harrison Street between Royal and South streets. This means that sandy spot, which was closed for several weeks, can reopen, beach to reopen, but the restaurant will still have to enter into a memorandum of agreement with the town that will lay out requirements for drinking and serving alcoholic beverages on the property, according to town documents

3. Traveling? No Time For Bills? Check Your Water Service Online: The Leesburg Utilities Department is reminding residents they can pay water bills or check their daily usage online 24/7 via the town’s Customer Self-Service Portal at www.leesburgva.gov/customerportal. Please email water_feedback@leesburgva.gov for your account number and CID or if you have questions.

4. Are you satisfied with your politicians? One Leesburg reader isn't. Ken Wall wrote on our boards "I'm very discouraged with the morals and common sense within the Virginia Republican party. It has become a national embarrassment because of questionable judgment and rightwing intolerance, creating party division." 5. No, this isn't over yet: The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors voted 8-1 to censure Eugene Delgaudio and remove him from county committees after a grand jury report on allegations that Delgaudio misused the aides in his office. But those following the case probably know better than to think Republican supervisor for Sterling would go down without a fight. Delgaudio said this week he will fight disciplinary actions against him, which include stripping his control of the Sterling District budget and eliminating funding for his aides.
