Tractor-Trailer Driver Dies in Fiery Crash Near Leesburg
A tractor-trailer truck jackknifed and then burst into flames, killing the driver, after the driver swerved to try to avoid hitting a car.

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — The driver of a tractor-trailer truck died in an accident that occurred west of Leesburg after swerving the vehicle in an attempt to avoid hitting a car that pulled out in front of it on Dec. 12, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office (LCSO).
Deputies say that the driver of a Toyota Corolla was attempting to pull out of a driveway to cross the median crossover of Route 7 to travel east on Route 7 at about 2:55 p.m. on Monday.
The driver pulled out in front of a driver of a 2005 Mack tractor-trailer that was westbound. The truck attempted to swerve and struck the front of the Toyota.

The truck then went down on its side before righting and then jackknifed. The engine compartment and cabin of the truck became fully engulfed in flames.
The driver of the truck, Thomas D. Taylor, 36, of Timberville, Va. lost his life at the scene.

The driver of the Toyota was taken to a local hospital and then was transferred to Inova Fairfax Hospital for treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation, according to the LCSO.
