Stop by Lorton Library, and you’ll see the masterworks of young artists from Lorton Station Elementary School. Outside, our recently repainted book sculpture looks bright and cheery. Inside you’ll find a sampling of student work including a landscape, a skyscape, and a climbing wall. We are grateful to Lorton Station Elementary art teacher, Ms. Holland for coordinating both of these public art projects. If you’d like to display your art or an interesting collection, please contact the library (703-339-7385). We have wall space and a beautiful display cabinet where you can show off your treasures.
Speaking of treasures, there are many to be found at the ongoing book sale organized by the Friends of Lorton Library. You’ll discover bargain basement prices for some good quality books for all ages. Books make lovely gifts and you’d be helping out the library by purchasing the Friends’ book sale. Items are added almost every day, so shop early and shop often!
The Friends of Lorton Library are looking for more members. If you like the idea of sorting through boxes of donated books and keeping the sale shelves neat and tidy, we have a job for you. It’s voluntary, of course, but the rewards are great. You get first dibs on purchasing any item that is going onto the sale shelves! On the library website, www.fairfaxcounty.gov/library there is a link to Friends of the Library where you can submit an application for membership. We’d love to have you as a Friend!
