Donate Life Virginia Helps Lorton Children Get Ready for School
Hundreds of Backpacks Handed Out at Lorton's Department of Motor Vehicles
Donate Life Virginia, in partnership with Washington Regional Transplant Community (WRTC), hosted a back-to-school, backpack giveaway at the Lorton, VA, DMV on Thursday, August 24, 2017. The successful event resulted in hundreds of backpacks being given to local students for the upcoming 2017-2018 school year.
The campaign was implemented with the hopes of giving all of Virginia’s children an opportunity to start the school year with the proper equipment. Carried out in 6 locations across the state, Donate Life volunteers were onsite to hand out the black backpacks and speak with parents about the benefits of organ, eye and tissue donation – empowering adults to become registered donors.
“It was awesome to see the response from both the children and parents,” said WRTC representative Al Smith. “Some of the parents I spoke with, not only voiced their appreciation for providing help for the school year, but also said they’ll consider something they hadn’t before - to become a registered donor.”

Currently, there are more than 2,600 Virginians waiting for a life-saving organ.
The Donate Life Virginia team will continue their efforts on Friday, August 25th at the Manassas DMV from 11 AM to 3 PM. This event is open to the public.
