BREAKING: The winter weather expected across the region Thursday afternoon will impact evening activities.
FAIRFAX, VA — Fairfax County Public Schools have announced a weather alert for school activities Thursday evening, Jan. 5, 2017.
Winter weather conditions are expected across the region beginning Thursday afternoon and into early Friday morning.
From the school system: Evening Activities Canceled. Due to freezing road conditions forecast for later this evening, facilities and school grounds will be closed starting at 6:15 p.m. All activities scheduled in Fairfax County public schools or on school grounds for this evening must be completed by 6:15 p.m. or are canceled, including:

- extracurricular activities
- interscholastic contests
- team practices
- field trips
- middle school after-school programs
- professional learning and training courses
- adult and community education classes
- recreation programs and community use by outside groups not affiliated with FCPS
SACC centers will remain open until 6:15 p.m. SACC Administration requests parents make every effort to pick up children earlier, if possible.
Weather conditions will be reassessed overnight for any change to schedules for Friday, January 6, 2017.
