Gas Prices Lower than $2 Possible for Virginia, Says AAA

With plummeting gas prices in Virginia, drivers will have more cash in their pockets for the holidays, AAA Mid-Atlantic says.

With gas prices in Virginia dropping more than a dollar since the Spring peak of $3.52, it’s even easier to jump in your car and head out on that trip to grandma’s house for fresh baked holiday cookies this month.

AAA reported yesterday that people can expect to see already rapidly declining prices — Virginia’s gas prices have lowered 10 cents since last week — to continue dropping leading up to New Year’s Day.

While a national average lower than $2 is still a stretch, AAA said, Virginia might see the beautiful $1.99 gas prices Oklahoma City drivers were gifted with last week.

Virginia’s average price at the pumps dropped 22 cents since last month, bringing the price to the state’s lowest in four years, AAA Mid-Atlantic said.

And at this time of year, with drivers saving between $15 and $35 more than last Spring every time they fill up, lower gas prices can mean more presents under the tree.

“Lower gas prices are padding the pockets of motorists as we head into the holiday season,” Tammy Arnette, Public Affairs Specialist for AAA Mid-Atlantic, said in a press release.
