Hunan Lorton Closed, Jersey Mike's To Open

There have been some changes at the Shoppes of Lorton Valley recently.

LORTON, VA — The Shoppes of Lorton Valley said goodbye to a long-time Chinese restaurant and is about to welcome a new sub shop to the mix.

In October, Hunan Lorton, which had been in the space for 15 years closed up shop. In a note posted to the door, they thanked customers for their patronage and noted it was because their lease was up.

A second note in the window announced folks could still find the chef at Asian Grill on Rolling Road.

"Our chef will now provide their excellence with Asian Grill and continue to serve your craving," the note reads.

In the meantime the folks at Jersey Mike's a sub shop chain based in New Jersey, are preparing for a grand opening. A sign on the door notes the grand opening is slated for Nov. 7.

If you hang out nearby, you might just score a coupon for a free or reduced sub. Representatives have been wandering around handing them out during the past few days.

The Lorton opening comes amid a Northern Virginia invasion that started in 2012. That year, the Post's Capital Business section reported Jersey Mike's was poised to enter the DC area with 15 new stores by the end of this year and 140 locations in the DC-Baltimore area in the next seven years. It looks like there are two stores in DC, and about a dozen just outside the Beltway.

Started in 1956, Jersey Mike’s now has 1,500 restaurants open and under development nationwide, according to its website.
