Local Family Business Sets Out to Help Heal the Healers

Petals & Roots Natural Skin Care Company Kicks Off Campaign to Help Show Support & Appreciation for the Nurses at Inova Fairfax

May 23, 2020 (Lorton, VA) – Petals & Roots, a family owned and operated natural skin care company in Northern Virginia, announces the start of their campaign "Lifting Hearts & Healing Hands." The campaign gives Petals & Roots customers a chance to show their support and appreciation for healthcare workers by gifting nourishing skin-care packages valued at $100, for just $50, tax free. Each package contains Petals & Roots products that have been carefully selected to provide extra nourishment to skin damaged by the effects of hand sanitizers and constant washing.

The idea behind the “Lifting Hearts & Healing Hands” campaign began when Petals & Roots founders Joe and Renee Gallagher, kept seeing their friend and neighbor, dressed in her hospital scrubs, coming and going to work at all hours of the day and night, at a time when everyone else was told to stay home and stay safe. “The stories about the individuals working on the “front-lines” putting their lives at risk during this pandemic for others weighs heavy on our minds and in our hearts,” says Petals & Roots Co-Founder, Renee Gallagher. “We came up with the idea after talking to our neighbor who is a Resident Nurse at Inova Fairfax. We wanted to say thank you in a meaningful way," she adds. "Many of our neighbors are working every day in these high stress hospital environments. Our hope is to give a little care back to the amazing caregivers in our community."

"Our long time neighbor, Rachel, is the inspiration behind this campaign." explains second co-founder Joe Gallagher. "She's incredible. We see her briefly between shifts as she's walking her dog in the neighborhood. She is always kind, calm and smiling, even through all of this." Rachel is a veteran RN and supervisor at Tower 10 of Inova Fairfax. A mother of 3 (plus her cherished Australian Shepard, Jasper), Rachel began her nursing career in New York City during the HIV/AIDS crisis and has been caring for others ever since.

“But her hands could tell a further story,” says Renee. “A common problem healthcare workers like Rachel are facing right now is cracked, painful skin due to excessive washing and sanitizers. Our products are designed to be naturally uplifting and skin healing. We thought maybe this could be a way to lift them up and ease a little bit of that pain. At the very least give them a smile,” she adds.

We are thrilled with the response we’ve already received from the local community and hope to meet our goal by June and company founder’s, Joe and Renee Gallagher, will package and personally deliver them to hospital workers at Inova Fairfax Hospital.
