Lorton Development a Top 2014 Story for Fairfax County Government
In July, the county signed off on the development plan for the almost 80-acre site now called Laurel Hill.

As we count down the days to a new year, Fairfax County looked back at some of their top news for 2014. Lorton came in at #5 out of 6 top stories on the county’s list:
Lorton Prison to Become Apartments, Condos and Homes
D.C.’s old Lorton Prison will be transformed into a mixed-use development with homes, stores, offices and green space. In July, the county signed off on the development plan for the almost 80-acre site now called Laurel Hill. The old cell blocks and dorms will be historically preserved, turned into apartments, condos, single family homes, offices, stores and civic space.
