Northern Virginia Weather: Break Out the Winter Coats

STERLING, VA — Get ready for a cold stretch, one in which high temperatures won't get much above freezing until Sunday, according to the area arm of the National Weather Service.

Not only that, but lows in the 20s will be the norm through the weekend.

Snow or rain possibly could make an appearance Sunday but there's only a 20 percent chance of that happening.

Tonight: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 25. Northwest wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm after midnight.

Friday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 37. Northwest wind 5 to 11 mph.

Friday Night: Mostly cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 20. Northwest wind 8 to 10 mph.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 36. Northwest wind 7 to 10 mph.

Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 26. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 7 mph in the evening.

Sunday: A slight chance of rain and snow showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 42. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 32.

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 48.

Monday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 34.

Tuesday: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 51. Chance of precipitation is 40%
