Northern Virginia Weather: Break From Cold as Rain Returns

STERLING, VA — Monday welcomes warmer temperatures which only get warmer Tuesday and Wednesday, according to the area arm of the National Weather Service. The specter of rain will loom large for start of the week, with a chance for snow as temperatures head back to normal.

Beginning Monday night, rain chances will be on the upswing through Thursday, when there might even be a touch of snow.

Meanwhile, highs in the low-60s are expected Tuesday and Wednesday.

Enjoy the few days of warmth, because temperatures drop swiftly Wednesday night, with even a chance for snow in some parts of the area. The high Thursday will only reach 38 degrees.

Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 32. West wind 5 to 8 mph.

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 52. Light and variable wind becoming south 5 to 7 mph in the morning.

Monday Night: A chance of showers after 8pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 43. South wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Tuesday: Showers likely, mainly after 8am. Cloudy, with a high near 63. South wind 7 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

Tuesday Night: Showers likely. Cloudy, with a low around 52. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Wednesday: Showers likely, mainly before 8am. Partly sunny, with a high near 61. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Wednesday Night: A chance of rain before 2am, then a chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 30. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Thursday: A chance of snow before 8am. Partly sunny, with a high near 38. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 23.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 40.
