STERLING, VA — Spring officially begins a week from Monday — the same day a winter storm is expected to barrel into the area and leave anywhere from 4-8 inches of snow, according to the area branch of the National Weather Service.
A winter storm warning is in effect Monday night through Tuesday, and be on the alert for potential school closings Tuesday or even early closings Monday.
Virginia Department of Transportation officials already have started treating roads in some areas.

Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 22. North wind 5 to 9 mph.
Monday: A chance of rain and snow after 5pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 41. Northeast wind 6 to 9 mph becoming southeast in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
Monday Night: Rain and snow, becoming all snow after 2am. Low around 31. East wind 9 to 11 mph becoming north after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 7 inches possible.
Tuesday: Snow before 2pm, then a chance of snow showers after 2pm. High near 38. North wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%.
Tuesday Night: A chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 23. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
Wednesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 31.
Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 20.
Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 36.
Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 21.
Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 42.
