STERLING, VA — Brothers and sisters, it's cold out there and it's going to stay cold with wicked wind chills until Friday as the snowstorm becomes an afterthought while the chill deepens.

That's the latest word from the regional outpost of the National Weather Service.

Consider: Tonight's lows will be around 20 with wind gusts up to 33 mph. (ahem, not 32 and not 34 but 33).

But the lows Friday night are expected to reach 40.

Tonight: Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 20. Breezy, with a west wind 19 to 24 mph decreasing to 10 to 15 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 33 mph.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 38. Northwest wind 10 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph.

Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 22. Northwest wind 6 to 10 mph.

Friday: A slight chance of rain after 2pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 46. Southwest wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Friday Night: Rain likely, mainly between 8pm and 1am, then a chance of showers after 1am. Cloudy, with a low around 39. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Saturday: Partly sunny, with a high near 56.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 34.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 48.
