Pre-Independence Day Fireworks Presented by Workhouse Arts Center

The fireworks are scheduled for July 2. The event will also feature food trucks and inflatables for children.

On Saturday, July 2nd, Workhouse Fireworks will race skyward, illuminating the Northern Virginia landscape in an expertly-choreographed display of pyrotechnic light and thunder. Launched from the Workhouse Art Center’s historic, 55-acre campus in Lorton, Virginia, the region’s largest pre-Independence Day fireworks show celebrates the history of this amazing nation and honors the more than 238 years of courage, perseverance, and sacrifice that have made America a beacon of hope and freedom around the world. The fireworks show will dazzle visitors with an incredible exhibition of vibrant colors, bright lights, and ground-shaking explosions. But the fireworks show is only the culmination of a day filled with excitement, creativity, and inspiration at the Workhouse Arts Center.

Beginning at 5p on July 2nd, guests are invited to gather at the Workhouse to explore nine art galleries and meet and explore the studios of more than 65 on-campus resident artists. Our galleries and studio buildings will remain open until just before the start of the fireworks extravaganza to ensure that everyone has a chance to enjoy the many examples of painting, sculpture, fiber arts, glass and ceramic arts, photography, and other art forms on display across our campus.

“This year's Workhouse Fireworks will be an amazing spectacle featuring thousands of pyrotechnic effects launched high above our campus,” said Ava Spece, president and CEO of the Workhouse Arts Center. “Because of our proximity to Washington, DC., the Workhouse’s role in an important part of American history, and our valued military and the arts partnerships with Fort Belvoir, Marine Corps Base Quantico, USO of Metropolitan Washington-Baltimore, and the Northern Virginia Regional Commission, we constantly strive to honor the history of the United States and all those who have dedicated or given their lives to improve and protect the nation.”

In addition to thrilling fireworks and exciting visual arts, guests at Workhouse Fireworks will also enjoy culinary delights available from more than 20 deliciously irresistible food trucks from throughout the region. Craft beer and fine wine will also be available for guests aged 21 and over, as well as ice-cold water and other non-alcoholic beverages for all our guests. As always, please drink responsibly.

The Silver Diner Family Fun Zone will include Moon Bounces and exciting lawn games for children.

Rounding out the day’s activities is a fun line-up of musical performances that will keep the Workhouse Quad filled with excitement, including a free Mount Vernon Nights performance at 7p by Peter Mawanga and the Amaravi Movement followed by the PBC Vocal Band at 8:15p. The fireworks show itself will be accompanied by a moving patriotic medley a little after 9p.

Admission to Workhouse Fireworks is free; parking is $10 per car and is available at both the Workhouse campus and across Ox Road (Route 123) at the Vulcan Quarry. A free shuttle will run between the Vulcan Quarry and the Workhouse throughout the event
