Supervisor Gerry Hyland Announces Retirement from Board

After 28 town hall meetings, Mount District Supervisor says he won't run for re-election in November.

Fairfax County Supervisor Gerry Hyland, who represents the Mount Vernon District, announced Saturday he won’t seek reelection come November.

Hyland made his announcement at his annual town hall meeting, his 28th such meeting. He was first elected to the position in 1988. The town hall was attended by Fairfax County Board Chair Sharon Bulova, Congressman Gerry Connolly, Del. Scott Surovell and others.

Hyland is the second Mount Vernon-area politico recently to announce their retirement from the political ring. State Sen. Linda “Toddy” Puller (D-36th) announced she also won’t be seeking reelection after representing the area in Richmond for more than 23 years. Fellow Democrat, Del. Surovell (D-44th), is running for that seat.
