Sargeant praised Hyland’s years of service and pointed out his own years of experience and deep ties and commitment to the community, which he says make him uniquely qualified to be the next Mount Vernon Supervisor.
Sargeant said, “For more than 20 years, I have devoted myself to providing community leadership and public service to the Mount Vernon District and Fairfax County. Now, I want to continue my service as the next Mount Vernon District Supervisor. I am ready and eager to take on the challenges that face our district. I believe that economic development and revitalization, with an expanded emphasis on transit and environmental awareness, go hand in hand with increased support for schools and a better quality of life for all Mount Vernon residents.”

“I am committed to working hard for the community today, while planning for progress in the future. I will be laying out my vision for Mount Vernon over the coming weeks.”
Sargeant says he has extensive experience and community involvement that will serve him well in the role of Supervisor.
He was reappointed by the Board of Supervisors to the Planning Commission in 2014 for a third four-year term. In this role, Sargeant has dealt with a range of planning projects involving many land-use applications in Mount Vernon, the Tysons redevelopment plan, affordable housing and green building projects. Most recently, he voted to oppose the expansion of the construction debris landfill in South County.
He has also served on the Board of Visitors of Gunston Hall since being appointed by then-Gov. Kaine. Recently, he was re-appointed by Governor McAuliffe.
After being nominated by Supervisor Gerry Hyland, he was appointed by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors to co-chair the task force to redevelop the former DC prison in Lorton. The plan resulted in the development of the Laurel Hill community, provided three sites for new schools, and set aside approximately 1,200 acres of park and recreation area, he pointed out.
He currently serves on the board of the Mount Vernon-Lee Chamber of Commerce, as well as the boards of the Northern Virginia Community College Foundation and the Northern Virginia Regional Park Foundation.
In his role as a planning commissioner and a community representative, he has worked closely with both the Mount Vernon Civic Association and the South County Federation.
In recognition of Tim’s professional and civic leadership, he received the 2014 Northern Virginia Leadership Award by Leadership Fairfax, was selected by Supervisor Hyland as the Mount Vernon Lord Fairfax nominee in 2005, and was the 2004 Times Community Newspaper “Citizen of the Year.”
Tim and his wife, Nancy, have lived in the Mt. Vernon District for more than 20 years. They have two grown children who both attended Fairfax County public schools, from elementary school through high school. He works with communities, businesses and local governments as an employee of Dominion Resources, where his focus is customer service.
