Virginia High School Football Playoffs: South County

Virginia's high school football playoffs got underway Friday evening and higher seeds generally prevailed across Northern Virginia, with top-seeded Varina edging Woodbridge 26-21 in the Group 6A South playoffs.  

In the Group 6A North playoffs, top-seated Centreville cruised to a 35-0 win over South Lakes, while second-seeded Lake Braddock ran out to a 56-31 win over Chantilly. The Bruins led 35-10 at the half.  

Fourth-seeded Washington-Lee, hosting its first playoff game in decades, was upended by Stonewall Jackson 42-34. Fifth-seeded Langley hung on to beat Battlefield 28-21, while T.C. Williams, playing its first postseason game in 22 years, fell to South County 51-27 in Lorton. 

Falls Church, playing its first playoff game since 1977, edged Albemarle 24-23 to punch its ticket into Group 5A North quarterfinals.
