Workhouse Arts Center Brings 'Solitary Confinement' to the Stage

'Solitary Confinement' the acclaimed psychological thriller will premiere next month at the Workhouse Arts Center.

From Work House Arts: The Workhouse Arts Center brings Rupert Holmes’ acclaimed psychological thriller Solitary Confinement to life in the Workhouse W-3 Theatre from January 13 through February 12, 2017.

Solitary Confinement is a perfect example of the compelling in-house productions at the Workhouse Arts Center – exciting, intimate, and unique. The story centers on the ruthless, successful billionaire Richard Jannings (played by Jason Krage), an entrepreneur who lives in self-imposed solitary confinement in a fortress apartment. Dominated by overwhelming paranoia, Jannings never leaves his personal inner sanctum, nor is anyone allowed inside. He communicates with his staff and clients through video chat, safe in perfect isolation. Until the night we meet Jannings, that is; a stranger has discovered how to break into the fortress, a stranger who intends to visit terrible violence upon Jannings, heralding an epic game of cat-and-mouse. The brilliance of this story will challenge your imagination and powers of deduction - every time you think you’ve figured out the story, it twists and turns, upending your perceptions and reshaping Jannings’ fate. This production is the world-premiere of playwright Rupert Holmes’ updates to the script, so there will be surprises in store even for those who have seen prior productions of Solitary.

In addition to Solitary Confinement, Holmes is best known for penning many popular songs recorded by Barbra Streisand and others and broke into the popular music scene with his performance of Escape (The Pina Colada Song). Mr. Holmes is known in the theatre world as the multiple-Tony Award winner for many outstanding works, including The Mystery of Edwin Drood which earned Best Original Score, Best Book, and Best Musical. In addition to Drood, he has written many stage plays, big-budget Broadway musicals, and numerous scripts for television and film.
