Workhouse Arts Center Teams Up With School Of Rock For Live Music
The Workhouse Arts Center and School of Rock Alexandria and Vienna have teamed up to bring live music to the center in August.

LORTON, VA — The Workhouse Arts Center and School of Rock Alexandria and Vienna have teamed up to bring live music to the weekly Workhouse Community Market. Held every Saturday in August, the market practices social distance shopping and community engagement in this age of the coronavirus.
The Workhouse Arts Center is known for its large events that include bands, musicians and other performing arts. Due to coronavirus restrictions, large events have been canceled for the year. But the Workhouse Arts Center has come up with an idea for smaller events that be held safely for the enjoyment and entertainment of the community.
“The idea behind the Community Market was to create a small, mini-festival type of community gathering, where safety and social distancing can be adhered to,” Elena Romanova, Workhouse Director of Development, said Tuesday in a statement. “Offering the community music performed by School of Rock kids from Fairfax County, literally brings music to people’s ears, which translates to joy and fun, filling a gap in community activities.”

School of Rock bands provide communities with live music entertainment at local venues and community events. School of Rock House Bands will be performing each Saturday in August at the Workhouse Arts Center from noon to 1 p.m.
"Our students not only have a blast performing at these events, they develop confidence, problem-solving and teamwork skills that cross over into other areas of their lives," said Steve McKay, owner of School of Rock Alexandria. "These family friendly performances are meant to inspire the community through the joy of music."

The Workhouse Community Market helps support Virginia artisans, crafters and food makers by providing a place to sell their wares, from handmade jewelry, clothing, gifts, and bath/beauty products to treats and exotic spices.
At noon, campus art galleries, exhibit spaces and the Lucy Burns Museum, all on the campus of the Workhouse Arts Center, open to the public.
Surrounded by historic buildings, the Community Market offers a unique venue for the Fairfax and Prince William communities to shop and explore.
